Rest When Your Baby Rests

16th May 2020

This is my take on the advice 'sleep when the baby sleeps' that you will invariably get if you have a new baby.

We've all heard the advice given to new parents about sleeping while the baby sleeps and as a midwife I have said it many times myself!

In essence, it's great advice and if you CAN sleep when your baby sleeps, then that's great, but the reality is that's not always possible, especially if you only get a small window to nod off in, or if you have the needs of older children to juggle! 'Rest While Your Baby Rests' is my Top Tip to remove the pressure of not being able to sleep.

With your little one sleeping safely in their crib, get comfy on the sofa or lay on the bed and rest your mind. Sometimes just a 15 or 20 minute rest will be enough to recharge your batteries giving you the energy boost that you need to carry on.

If you are able to coordinate your toddler's nap with when your baby sleeps then that may improve the quality of your resting time and even though prepping dinner and folding the laundry may seem like a good use of time, my advice is to prioritise your rest! ♥️
