Recognise When Your Baby is Tired

26th June 2020

We hear a lot about feeding cues and the importance of being tuned into recognising when baby wants to feed and it's equally important to know when your little one needs to sleep too.

Sleep is essential for our physical and mental health and as a guide, a newborn needs an 'average' of 16 hours sleep in a 24 hour period!

Recognising your babies' tired cues means you can encourage them to nap before they become overtired. Yawning, eye rubbing, becoming less active and less vocal may be signs that your baby is becoming tired and that's the time to prepare them for sleep.

Having an awareness of average awake windows may also help you to tune in. A newborn will likely be showing signs of tiredness after 60-90 minutes of being awake and these windows become longer as your baby grows.

If you have any questions about your newborn then please get in touch, you can find details of my remote support services on my website.
